Welcome to Q's Computer Service Ltd. It has been just over a month now since our restructure, and the introduction of some new services. We will be sending out periodic newsletters that might include important information, new services or products, as well as information on current cyber threats, and advice on how to best secure your systems. If you do not wish to receive these, please feel free to click the unsubscribe button at the bottom of this email. If there is anyone else at your place of business that you feel needs to receive these, please feel free to forward this email to them so that they can subscribe as well.
Please find some helpful information below:
- MFA - Multi-factor authentication. One of the best ways to secure your important accounts is with MFA (sometimes called 2FA). This method of logging in requires your password for your account, and then either a randomly generated number from an "authenticator app" on your phone, or from a text message that they send you. This is known as a one time password (OTP). That way if someone has your password, they won't have access to that second set of numbers and won't be able to gain access to your account. Keep in mind, that no solution is 100% fool proof, and everyone still need to use caution when accessing attachments or links in emails.
- Anti-Virus. Every computer needs a good anti-virus solution. Windows comes with one built in, but is somewhat rudimentary. If you currently use Microsoft 365 for your email, with a "premium" license, you can enable higher end virus scanning, as well as better spam protection for your email. If you don't use MS365, or don't wish to pay for premium licenses, another good product is Web Root. We can make that product available to you as an addon to our remote management system. Cost is $2.00/device/month (subject to change based on US/CAN exchange rate).
- Windows 10. Please note, that by October of 2025, Microsoft will no longer have any updates for Windows 10, which means that any security vulnerabilities that come up will not be addressed by Microsoft. If you have any Windows 10 computers in your company, you will need to either upgrade Windows, or replace the computer. At some point in the coming months we will send you a list of all computers you have that have Windows 10 on them, and then we can determine if they are capable of running Windows 11, or if they need replacing.
